Bar or Bat Mitzvah in NJ, CT, NY

A Bar or Bat Mitzvah Ceremony takes place when a young person who is raised in the Jewish faith reaches the age of 13. Their status within the Jewish community changes. They are now considered young adults. By embracing their heritage and responsibilities of the Jewish religion, boys become a Bar Mitzvah (son of the commandment) and girls become a Bat Mitzvah (daughter of the commandment).

The Bar or  Bat Mitzvah students that I teach will benefit from my experience in coaching, mentoring, and preparing over 1900 students during my many years as a Cantor. I strive to approach each and every soon-to-be young adult as an individual, and I seek to impart how meaningful this rite of passage is for them and their family. During their Bar and Bat Mitzvah training, in addition to learning prayers, the student will learn Torah and Haftara, melodies, and meaning. My most important goal is that long after the ceremony and celebrations are over, the Bar or Bat Mitzvah will remember the experience with pride and great satisfaction.

Celebrating Bar or Bat Mitzvah in NJ, CT, NY

Celebrating this important milestone publicly allows family, friends, and members of the community to share their appreciation and joy. Guests also act as witnesses to the acceptance of the privileges and responsibilities that go along with becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah.

The Service

The student will be trained to participate in a worship service, to lead the congregration in prayer and chant the blessings. It is also common for the student to recite verses from the appropriate Torah portion as well as the Haftara. Many times the student then gives a personal speech based on lessons that they have learned from the Torah portion, or about the meaning of the Bar or Bat Mitzvah.

The Preparation

It has been a great joy to be able to guide and mentor so many young adults in my life in the process of becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah in the greater Tri-State area. I am with them every step of the way. Getting to know each one of my students on a personal level always gives me joy and motivation.

I have worked with students from different backgrounds and levels of Hebrew and Jewish knowledge. Each student is different and requires an individual approach.

I work closely with my students and their families to set realistic goals while having fun.

Individual Lessons

The more time your child has to prepare the more comfortable they will be. I can customize lessons that will work with the time and availability you and your child has. In our fast-paced world of school, sports, and other activities, it can be a little challenging to find the time and energy to practice.

The Ceremony

Do you want your child to become a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, but you are not affiliated with a synagogue or the use of a temple sanctuary? That is not a problem.

As a Cantor, I am able through my training and experience to prepare your child for becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah and also officiate at the service that can be as traditional and creative as you need it to be.

  • Your Home
  • Country Club
  • Restaurant
